Haryana’s Para Olympian Harvinder Singh and Dr. Santram Deswal were awarded Padma Shri by President Draupadi Murmu on the occasion of Republic Day on Sunday in Delhi. Harvinder Singh, a resident of Kaithal, is the first Indian to win a gold medal in archery in the Paralympics.

On the other hand, Dr. Santram Deswal, a resident of Sonipat, has written more than 30 poems like poetry, memoirs, biography and travelogue. Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini has congratulated both of them on receiving the Padma Shri award.

Harvinder’s legs stopped working after dengue

Harvinder Singh was born on 25 February 1991 in Kaithal, Haryana. Harvinder Singh, who belonged to a farmer family of Ajit Nagar, got dengue at the age of one and a half years. He was given injections for the treatment of dengue. Due to the bad effects of the injection, his legs stopped moving. But, he never let this weakness of his come in the way.

During the lockdown, father built an archery range in the field

Harvinder Singh made his debut in the 2017 Para Archery World Championship and finished 7th. The next year in 2018, he won the gold medal in the Jakarta Asian Games. In the year 2020, due to the lockdown imposed due to Corona, he did not get a chance to practice, so he along with his father built a range for archery in his field. Now he is doing PhD in Economics.

Dr. Sant Ram lost his father at the age of three

Dr. Santram Deshwal was born on 24 April 1955. Dr. Santram’s insistence on studying and social service earned him the Padma Shri award. At the age of just 3, he lost his father. After his father, his mother raised 8 children including him. He even left his house to study. He studied till BA by going 15 km away from home, sometimes on foot and sometimes on bicycle.

Reached MDU with 600 rupees from an acquaintance

When circumstances became a hindrance in further education, Dr. Deshwal left his native village Khedka Gujjar (Jhajjar) with 600 rupees from an acquaintance and reached Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak. He did MA in English, LLB, MA in Hindi, MPhill, PHD, Diploma in translation and German. His study continued till the age of 70.

Passion for writing essays

Dr. Santram’s first hobby is Lalit Nibandh. He says that he has worked more in those genres of literature on which less was written in Haryana. He wrote Lalit Nibandh to take his culture, Purana, society to the new generation. Along with travelogue, poetry collections have also been in discussion. His Fauji Mehar Singh Granthavali and Smritiyon Ke Sopan and Haryanvi Navgeet are popular works.

More than a dozen awards have been received

Dr. Deshwal has received more than a dozen awards for his works. These include Mahakavi Surdas Ajeev Sadhna Samman, Lok Sahitya Shiromani Samman and Jankavi Mehar Singh Award. He wrote a composition called “Haryana Culture and Art” with the inspiration of litterateur Dr. Chandra Trikha. After this, he started writing poems, memoirs, travelogues and Lalit Nibandh.

The 76th Republic Day was celebrated in the entire state of Haryana today on Sunday (26 January). CM Naib Saini hoisted the tricolor for the first time as Chief Minister in Rewari. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya hoisted the tricolor in Faridabad. In Jind, the officials forgot to turn on the mic at the program of Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda.

On Republic Day, Haryana’s tableau came out on the path of duty in New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the tableau by waving their hands. CM Naib Singh Saini has shared a video of this on his social media.
