Many big announcements have been made for Punjab in the Union Budget 2025, which is expected to strengthen the farmers and industries of the state. The Finance Minister announced important schemes to encourage agriculture, small industries and startups in her budget speech.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for 2025-26 on Saturday. Many big announcements have been made in this budget to strengthen farmers and industries. However, MPs from Punjab and Chandigarh seemed unhappy with the budget.
Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on the Union Budget that the names of the states where elections are going to be held were taken the most. Bihar and then Assam were named. Punjab was not even named where farmers are sitting on dharna for the guarantee of MSP. The fight of the farmers was not heard at all, so I am sad.
At the same time, Chandigarh Congress MP Manish Tiwari said that I failed to understand whether this was the budget of the Government of India or the Government of Bihar? Have you heard the name of any state other than Bihar in the entire budget speech of the Union Finance Minister. When you talk about the country’s budget, there should be something for the whole country in it. It is sad that the development of the rest of the country has been put at stake to keep the crutches on which the government is running stable.
Budget that will sink the country
At the same time, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi said that no section got anything in the budget. Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh were not even named… nothing for the farmers. Farmers are sitting on strike, there was no talk of them and MSP, this is a budget that will sink the country.
Union Minister Ravneet Bittu listed the specialties
On the general budget, Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu said that the middle class has been given a big relief in the budget. No income tax will have to be paid on income up to Rs 12 lakh. Similarly, 36 life saving medicines have been completely exempted from basic customs duty, increasing access to essential treatments. The limit of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector has been increased from 74% to 100%, which will encourage more international participation and investment. Special focus has been placed on increasing agricultural productivity. High-yield crops and cotton in particular have been encouraged. Significant increase of 15-20% in capital expenditure for Indian Railways, which will pave the way for modern Vande Bharat trains and safety measures. The establishment of a National Food Technology Institute in Bihar has been announced, which aims to promote innovation and development in the food processing sector.
CM said – this is an election budget
At the same time, CM Bhagwant Mann said that Punjab was once again ignored in the budget presented by the central government. The central government has not given anything to the farmers and youth of Punjab. Neither the farmers were given MSP on the crop by the Center, nor was the state given a package for any industry. Punjab was not given anything that could improve its economic and future. This budget is only an election budget, in which there are announcements only for the state of Bihar. Once again, the central government has treated Punjab and Punjabis step-motherly in the budget. But we will make Punjab stand on its own feet.
On the budget, Aam Aadmi Party Punjab spokesperson Neel Garg said that there is Bihar, Bihar and only Bihar in the budget. It seems that the election season has arrived, that is why suddenly Bihar is getting a shower of gifts. But the question is what will happen to the rest of the states. Will the development happen only according to electoral interests? He said that there is no mention of the farmers of Punjab. There is nothing for the industrialists of Punjab. The Center should answer who will give the account of the pending funds of Punjab. He said that the country needs public welfare policies, not political gifts.
