The budget session of the Punjab Assembly will begin on Friday, March 21. Even before the session begins, the opposition has got an issue to surround the government. The incident of Colonel Pushpinder Bath and his son being beaten up by the police in Patiala as well as the forceful removal of farmers from Shambhu and Khanauri border can create problems for the government.
Meanwhile, in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday late evening, the budget to be presented in the assembly on March 26 was approved. After the meeting, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that the budget passed by the cabinet has been sent to the Governor for approval.
After getting his approval, it will be presented in the assembly on March 26. During the budget session starting from Friday, the first address will be by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema will present the budget on March 26.
When will women get Rs 1000
It will be interesting to see in this budget whether the AAP government, which is in debt of Rs 3.53 lakh crore, makes any announcement regarding the promise of giving Rs 1000 per month to women or not. There will also be pressure on the government regarding the fact that the BJP government of Delhi and Haryana has kept a budget of about Rs 5 thousand crore for women.
The Congress has already rolled up its sleeves to surround the government on the promises made to women. At the same time, the government will have a big opportunity to count achievements like opening the Shambhu and Khanauri border, which has been closed for more than a year, smoothening the traffic, taking strict action against drugs.
‘Mann government is not against farmers’
On the other hand, the opposition has long been accusing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of turning Punjab into a police state. In such a situation, the bulldozers running on houses in the action against drug smugglers and the beating of the colonel by the police personnel have given the opposition a ready-made issue.
However, the relief for the government is that the opposition parties have never been able to show unity. The government may have cleared the border, but the AAP leaders seem a little disturbed in view of the attacks from the opposition parties. This is why even after taking action against the farmers, the AAP ministers are constantly trying to give the message that the government is not against the farmers.
Agni Pariksha for Congress
The budget session will be no less than an Agni Pariksha for the main opposition party Congress because till now the Congress MLAs have never been able to pose challenges to the ruling party. The main reason is that the unity of the Congress is not seen even in the House. More or less the same situation is with the two BJP MLAs who are rarely seen in the House.
