Bathinda. In the village Jethuke of the district, the in-laws strangled their own daughter-in-law to death for not giving a car in dowry. After committing the crime, the accused husband and his entire family fled from the spot.
On the complaint of the father of the deceased married woman, the Sadar Rampura police station has registered a case against the accused husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law and started searching for them.
Giving a complaint to the police, Ramu Ram, resident of village Harnam Singh Wala, told that he had married his 20-year-old daughter Maya Devi to the accused Happy Ram, resident of village Jethuke, on 11 April 2024. He had spent about Rs 7 lakh on the wedding, while he had given a bullet motorcycle to his son-in-law in the wedding dowry. About a month after the marriage, his daughter’s in-laws started harassing her for dowry.
Son-in-law was addicted to drugs, he had given Bullet in dowry
During this time he came to know that his son-in-law was addicted to drugs. Due to this Ramu brought the Bullet motorcycle given in dowry to his house so that he does not sell it for drugs.
After this his daughter’s in-laws started harassing him more and now started demanding a car in dowry. Due to which he had left his daughter at her in-laws’ place many times after making a Panchayati settlement.
Information of daughter’s death was received on 30th April
According to the victim, the said people had threatened him that if he did not fulfill the demand of the car, then they would not keep his daughter at their house. He told that on the evening of 30th April he got information that his daughter Maya Kaur had died at her in-laws’ house.
When he reached her in-laws’ village Jethuke with his family, he saw that his daughter’s body was lying on a cot at home. Neither her husband nor her in-laws were present at home. Everyone had fled from there. There were marks on the daughter’s neck. From which it appears that her in-laws have strangled her daughter to death.
Police registered a case
After this, Sadar Rampura police station reached the spot and after taking stock of the scene, started the investigation. Investigating officer of the case SI Joginder Singh said that on the complaint of the father of the dead girl, a case has been registered against the accused husband Happy Ram, father-in-law Gurtej Singh, mother-in-law Rani Kaur and sister-in-law Anju Kaur, residents of village Jethuke, and efforts have been started to arrest them.
