Amidst the Indo-Pak ceasefire, the by-election for the Ludhiana West Assembly seat can be declared any time now. Its indications have been given to the state election officials. The Election Commission is preparing to announce the election on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
According to information received from Election Commission sources, it is necessary to conduct elections within six months of any seat becoming vacant, so it can be announced next week.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Gurpreet Gogi
21 days have to be given before the election, in which time is given for filing nomination, scrutiny of nomination and withdrawal of name. Apart from this, candidates also get some days for campaigning. It is worth mentioning that this seat has fallen vacant due to the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurpreet Gogi from Ludhiana West.
He died on January 11, which means that it has been more than four months since the Ludhiana West seat fell vacant. In such a situation, there is a need to conduct elections on this seat soon. Recently when the Indo-Pak conflict broke out, it was feared that the elections would be postponed due to the changed circumstances, but now that the situation is becoming normal, the elections can be held next week. There is a provision to postpone the elections during the war, but now the clouds of war have cleared and the situation has become normal.
BJP has not yet fielded a candidate
It is also interesting that Aam Aadmi Party had fielded Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora from Ludhiana West two and a half months ago and the party will try its best to win this election. It is not that winning this election will make any difference to the party. The party already has 94 MLAs, but after this victory, one Rajya Sabha seat will definitely become vacant, on which a big leader of Aam Aadmi Party will be sent to Rajya Sabha.
Congress has also fielded its former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Shiromani Akali Dal has fielded Paropkar Singh Ghumman from Ludhiana West while Bharatiya Janata Party has not fielded any leader yet. BJP candidate had won this seat which was under Lok Sabha elections.
