There is bad news for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT), Physical Education Assistants and Art Teachers employed on contract in government schools in Haryana. The Education Department has withdrawn the decision to extend the contract of teachers declared surplus by one year. Now their contract will be valid only till June 30.
When schools open after summer vacation, these teachers will not get the opportunity to teach children. All the District Basic Education Officers have been directed by the Director General of Basic Education to terminate the services of all TGTs, Art Teachers and Physical Education Assistants declared surplus after June 30.
679 TGTs employed through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam Limited (HKRNL) were declared surplus and removed on April 1. When a controversy broke out over this, the state government issued an order on April 28, not only to accommodate them again in schools, but also extended the contract directly for one year i.e. till March 31, 2026. Also, the contract of all physical education assistants and art teachers has been extended for one year.
About 1500 physical education assistants and 500 art teachers who were removed on court orders due to irregularities in recruitments done in the previous Hooda government are currently working on contract under Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam. The Finance Department has objected to the direct extension of contract of contract teachers by one year by the Education Department.
In the orders issued recently by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, the contract of all employees working under HKRNL has been extended till June 30. In view of the objections of the Finance Department, the Basic Education Department has decided to extend the contract of contract teachers only till June 30. After this, their services will be terminated.
