Discussion of Akali Dal-BJP alliance in Punjab 2027: Bhundar said- If the issues of the state are resolved then there will be a discussion; will be in the role of elder brother

Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP may contest the assembly elections to be held in Punjab in 2027 together. A statement by Shiromani Akali Dal’s working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar has definitely strengthened the possibility of both the parties coming together.

He says that if BJP solves the issues of Punjab, then coming together with them can be considered. However, Akali Dal will be involved in this in the role of elder brother. However, BJP says that now BJP is not the same as before. BJP’s situation has changed. Whether there is an alliance or not, the issues of Punjab will be solved.

This is how the whole issue started

In fact, when the media asked Shiromani Akali Dal’s working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar, who had come to a program in Chandigarh, whether there is a need for an alliance between the Akali Dal and the BJP in the assembly elections to be held in 2027, he first said, “I do not want to comment on this. Our main goal is to strengthen the Akali Dal and save Punjab. Only the Akali Dal can strengthen Punjab.”

After this, when the media said that BJP and Akali Dal get along well in terms of vote percentage, Bhundar replied, “Elections are not fought on the basis of vote percentage. Elections are fought on the basis of principles.”

He said – If our issues are the same, then it can be thought about

Then the media asked whether he thinks that there should be an alliance between the two parties. On this, he said, “If our issues are resolved, then it can be considered further. These include issues like Punjab’s water issue, the issue of imprisoned Sikhs, federal system, opening of border and recruitment of forces.”

When the media asked whether the Akali Dal will go in the role of younger brother, he clarified, “If it goes, it will go in the role of elder brother.”

However, BJP leader SS Channi says that now BJP is not like before. BJP has contested elections on all seats. Whether there is an alliance or not, but the issues of Punjab are being resolved on priority basis. Many issues have also been resolved.

Both separated after farmers’ movement

According to the information, BJP and Shiromani Akali were in alliance together in Punjab since 1996. But as soon as the farmers’ movement happened in 2019, the Akali Dal broke the alliance with BJP. After this, the paths of both the parties separated.

After this, when the 2022 assembly elections were held, both the parties fielded different candidates. During this, Akali Dal got success on three seats and BJP on two seats. Similar situation prevailed in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Both the parties contested separately. Akali Dal won one seat Bathinda.

Here Badal’s daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal won the election. But BJP had to face defeat. However, BJP’s vote percentage became 18 percent. However, if Akali and BJP had contested the elections together, both the parties could have won five seats.
