Amidst the controversy over the high number of employees in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, the vigilance team of Chandigarh Administration has now started an investigation. This investigation is being conducted regarding the recruitment of those outsourced employees who were hired through GeM (Government e-Marketplace). It is alleged that the necessary documents were not properly checked while recruiting them.
SP Geetanjali Khandelwal of the Vigilance Department has written a letter to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner saying that the documents were sought several times, but have not been received yet. She has again asked to send all the necessary documents soon, so that the investigation can be completed quickly.
It is necessary for the corporation to respond quickly
The SP also reminded in his letter that according to the rules of CVC (Central Vigilance Commission), no investigation should last more than a year. Therefore, it is necessary for the corporation to respond quickly.
When the matter of removing some employees came up in the last Municipal Corporation meeting, councilors of all parties opposed it. The Mayor of Chandigarh also clearly said that it would not be right to remove the employees.
Strictness increased amid financial crisis
According to sources, this matter has now reached the top officials of Chandigarh Administration. The Municipal Corporation is already facing a shortage of money, so now the investigation regarding the number of employees and recruitments has become more strict.
