Monsoon Gains Strength in Punjab: Thunderstorm & Rain Alert for 13 Districts Till June 30

Chandigarh: The monsoon has officially arrived in Punjab and is expected to advance further over the next 36 hours, with favorable weather conditions supporting its progress. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Yellow and Orange Alerts for various parts of the state, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds until June 30.

Thunderstorm & Rain Expected This Morning

As per IMD’s early morning bulletin, moderate rainfall, lightning, and winds gusting at 30–40 km/h are likely in Mohali and Patiala till 10 AM today.

In the last 24 hours, the average maximum temperature across the state has dropped by 2.4°C, making it 3.9°C below normal. The highest temperature was recorded in Bathinda at 40°C.

On Tuesday, the highest rainfall was observed in Ropar (14 mm), followed by 13 mm in Thein Dam area of Pathankot, 2 mm in Patiala, and a significant 71 mm in Ludhiana.

Likely Widespread Moderate Rainfall:

  • Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Rupnagar, Mohali

Likely Scattered Moderate Rainfall:

  • Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala

Likely Isolated Moderate Rainfall:

  • Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur

In addition, thunderstorm, lightning, and heavy rain are expected at isolated places in:

  • Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Rupnagar, Mohali

  • Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala


Rainfall Outlook for Coming Days

  • June 25, 28, 29, and 30: Light to moderate rainfall expected at several locations.

  • June 26–27: Widespread light to moderate rainfall likely.

  • Till June 30: Thunderstorms and lightning possible at isolated locations.
