Ludhiana, Punjab –
A tragic road accident occurred late Thursday night in Ludhiana’s South City Road area, when a Swift and Hyundai i20 collided head-on and overturned, leaving five people injured, two of them critically. The incident unfolded around midnight and was reportedly caused by a large stone lying in the middle of the road, which obstructed visibility and triggered the crash.
Stone on Road Blamed for Collision
Eyewitnesses and local residents claim that the stone lying on the road was the main cause of the accident. Both cars were reportedly trying to avoid hitting the stone when they lost control and crashed into each other, resulting in both vehicles overturning upon impact.
The intensity of the collision was such that passersby had to pull the victims out of the wrecked cars. Immediate assistance was provided by local residents, who called 108 emergency services, and the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana.
Identity of the Injured
According to hospital authorities, the five injured individuals have been identified as:
-
Gurpreet (resident of Chhawni Mohalla)
-
Lovepreet (resident of Basti Jodhewal)
-
Sahil (resident of Nanak Nagar)
-

Returning from Swimming Pool, Headed to Party
According to Sahil’s father, the group had earlier visited a swimming pool, and while returning, decided to go for a small party. It was during this outing that their car collided with another vehicle on South City Road, leading to the severe accident.
Police officials from Sarabha Nagar Police Station reached the scene promptly and started an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the stone on the road was carelessly left during some prior construction or repair work, which was not cleared or marked, causing a major hazard.
Local Residents Demand Action
After the accident, local residents gathered at the site and expressed anger and concern over the poor road maintenance. They alleged that such obstructions are often seen on this stretch of road and no action is taken by the Municipal Corporation.
Many demanded that the authorities investigate how the stone came to be on the road, and whether there was negligence on the part of road repair teams or private contractors.

ASI from Sarabha Nagar Police Station stated,
“The investigation is ongoing. A stone was found in the middle of the road at the crash site. We are trying to trace the origin and responsibility for it. CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being collected to determine the exact sequence of events.”
