Haryana Govt to Grant ₹1 Crore Ex-Gratia to Martyred Agniveers; Announces Cash Rewards for Gallantry Awardees

Date:

Chandigarh | June 28, 2025:
In a major policy announcement, the Haryana government has issued two official notifications confirming financial support and cash rewards for Agniveers martyred in battle and recipients of gallantry awards. The move extends parity to Agniveers with regular armed forces personnel in terms of state benefits.

As per the notification, the families of Agniveers who are martyred in operational areas — including those involved in warfare, anti-terrorist or insurgency operations, cross-border skirmishes, or UN peacekeeping missions — will now receive an ex-gratia amount of ₹1 crore.

This policy was approved in the Cabinet meeting held on May 5, and aligns Agniveers with other defence and paramilitary personnel who were already eligible for such benefits.

🏅 Cash Rewards for Gallantry Awards

The state has also announced one-time cash rewards for Agniveers and other servicemen who are recipients of gallantry and distinguished service awards, both in wartime and peacetime:

🔴 Wartime Gallantry Awards:

  • Param Vir Chakra: ₹2 crore

  • Maha Vir Chakra / Ashok Chakra: ₹1 crore

  • Vir Chakra: ₹50 lakh

  • Sena Medal & equivalents: ₹21 lakh

  • Mention-in-Despatches (Gallantry): ₹10 lakh

🟢 Peacetime Gallantry Awards:

  • Kirti Chakra: ₹51 lakh

  • Shaurya Chakra: ₹31 lakh

  • President’s Coast Guard Medal (Gallantry): ₹10 lakh

  • Mention-in-Despatches: ₹7.5 lakh

  • Coast Guard Medal: ₹6 lakh

🟣 Distinguished Service Awards:

  • Sena Medal (Service) and equivalents: ₹1.75 lakh

  • President’s Coast Guard Medal (Service): ₹1.75 lakh

  • Coast Guard Medal (Service): ₹1.5 lakh

❗ Condition: No Double Benefits from Other States

According to the notification, cash rewards will not be granted if the Agniveer or servicemember has already received a similar grant from another state government for the same award. This is to avoid duplicate disbursement of benefits.

🏦 Direct Bank Transfer to Aadhaar-linked Accounts

The notification, issued by Vijayendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Sainik and Paramilitary Welfare, Haryana, also outlines the disbursal process:

“Cash rewards will be transferred via RTGS to the awardees’ or their legal heirs’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts by the respective District Sainik and Paramilitary Welfare Offices.”

The Administrative Secretary of the Sainik & Paramilitary Welfare Department will act as the competent authority for approval.

🧾 Policy in Brief:

  • Martyred Agniveers in combat zones to receive ₹1 crore compensation.

  • Cash rewards range from ₹6 lakh to ₹2 crore depending on the gallantry award.

  • No rewards if already granted by another state.

  • Payments will be made directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
