Chandigarh, June 2025 — The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), under the leadership of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, held its first core committee meeting after restructuring its organizational framework. The nearly four-hour-long meeting turned into a full-fledged political offensive against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, particularly targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
During the meeting, SAD passed a resolution alleging that the AAP-led Punjab government is engaging in revenge politics to distract the public from its failures. The committee strongly criticized the registration of a disproportionate assets case against senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, calling it a politically motivated act.
“The party was never afraid in the past, nor will it be now. We will oppose this politically-driven harassment with full force,” said Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, party secretary, while briefing the media after the meeting.
🔍 Land Pooling Policy Called ‘A Den of Corruption’
Dr. Cheema also alleged that the land pooling policy introduced by the Mann government in Ludhiana is nothing but a “corruption hub.” The policy, he claimed, is aimed at snatching farmers’ lands, eliminating farm labor, and depriving thousands of people of their livelihood.
He further asserted that SAD will soon make fresh revelations backed by facts on this policy and expose how it is being used for land-grabbing under the guise of development.
🛑 Democracy Under Threat, Says SAD
The resolution also alleged that Arvind Kejriwal and his team are adopting dictatorial methods, creating an “Emergency-like” atmosphere in Punjab. According to SAD, political rivals are being falsely implicated in baseless cases, law and order has collapsed, the state’s economy is on the brink of bankruptcy, and developmental work is completely stalled.
Dr. Cheema said the “War Against Drugs” has become a farce under AAP rule, with crores of rupees being spent but no real outcome on the ground. He also highlighted the increasing presence of officials from Delhi and outside Punjab in key administrative positions, alleging that outsiders are running the state machinery.
⚖️ Majithia Still Being Targeted
The core committee accused the government of persistently harassing Majithia’s family and other senior party leaders, even though the state has failed to substantiate any claims under the earlier NDPS case.
🚨 Clean Chit to Ex-Minister Vijay Singla Questioned
The committee expressed concern over the clean chit given to former health minister Dr. Vijay Singla, calling it a political drama. Dr. Cheema emphasized that CM Bhagwant Mann himself had claimed to be a witness to the corruption allegations when the case emerged.
“Now giving a clean chit to Singla raises serious questions on the entire process. This shows how selective and manipulative the government’s so-called anti-corruption drive is,” Cheema said.
🌱 SAD to Launch Tree Plantation Campaign
In line with the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, SAD will plant 1 lakh trees across Punjab in July as part of its environmental commitment. The party also announced the appointment of senior leader Gulzar Singh Ranike as coordinator for the upcoming by-election following the death of Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, MLA from Tarn Taran.
🎬 On Sardar Ji 3 Controversy: Art Must Not Spread Hate
The committee also addressed the ongoing controversy over Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film ‘Sardar Ji 3’, which features a Pakistani actress. SAD stated that art and sports should not be used to spread hate, and unnecessary controversies must be avoided. The party, however, clarified that it stands with the nation-first policy of the central government.
“We believe national interest comes first, but unnecessary hype around cinema or sports only divides people,” the committee stated.
