Chandigarh: Strengthening the zero-tolerance policy towards littering in public places, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation identified through CCTV footage and challaned the violator who littered in Sector-23.
The incident came to light when residents submitted videos in which the person was seen throwing garbage irresponsibly in a public area. The Municipal Corporation took prompt action and identified the violator based on the registration number of the scooter and issued a challan under the Solid Waste Management (MSW) Rules. The violator was also given a strict warning not to commit any violation in future. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar said that the action will send a strong message that littering in public places will not be tolerated. Cooperation of citizens is important and the Municipal Corporation encourages more and more residents to come forward with such evidence.
The commissioner has appealed to the citizens to report the violations on WhatsApp number 9915762917 by sharing photos or video clips of garbage dumping activities along with location details. After examining these reports, necessary action will be taken as per MSW rules.
