The victim’s family, angry over the Varun murder case in Bhargava Camp, Jalandhar, staged a sit-in protest at Shri Guru Ravidas Chowk on Sunday. The family accused the police of serious negligence and said that the main accused Sonu Pandit and Shiva are still roaming freely, but the police are failing to catch them.
During the protest, Varun’s family told that some miscreants, in a drunken state, attacked their son with a knife and killed him. Varun died in the attack, while Lokesh and Vishal were seriously injured. Lokesh got 100 stitches and Vishal got 35 stitches. Despite this, the police shelved the case after the arrest of two accused and did not take action against the main accused.
The family said that they appealed to the police officers several times, but every time they got only assurances. They also alleged that the police have not been able to reach the drug suppliers yet, even though the accused had admitted in remand that they had consumed drugs before the incident.
Senior officials of Bhargava police station also reached the protest site and assured the family of quick action. However, the family says that they had given a final warning two days ago, but when no concrete action was taken, they had to take to the streets. The family made it clear that their struggle will continue until the culprits are arrested and the drug smugglers are named.
