A large police force has been deployed in Bhogpur after the entire Valmiki community called for a shutdown and blockade of the National Highway in Bhogpur today to protest the Honorable Court’s decision regarding a land dispute near the Lord Valmiki Temple in a village in Nakodar subdivision of Jalandhar district. Police from several districts have also been called in to Bhogpur. It is reported that the protesters had set a time for the blockade and the National Highway in Bhogpur at 9 a.m. today. According to sources, in light of the protest announcement, police have detained approximately five Valmiki community leaders associated with the Bhogpur police station. A total of seven leaders have been placed under house arrest in Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts, and heavy police presence has been deployed outside their homes. As a precautionary measure, the police have deployed a large number of police personnel in Bhogpur to avoid any untoward incident. Till the time of writing this news, there has been no response from the protesters.
