Police tighten their grip on this close associate of Amritpal, placing him on 2-day remand.
Harjeet Singh, son of Swarn Singh, a resident of Jallupur Khera, Amritsar district, was produced before the court of Honorable Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Simranjit Kaur, Nakodar, accompanied by a heavy police presence. The police had requested 10 days of police remand, but accepting the defense counsel’s arguments, the court ordered the accused on 2-day police remand.
It is noteworthy that Amritpal Singh is already incarcerated in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, in connection with this case. Meanwhile, his uncle, Harjeet Singh, who was incarcerated in Bathinda Jail in another case, was produced in the Nakodar Court, Jalandhar District, on a production warrant from Bathinda Jail, following a lawyer’s request. A third accomplice in this case, Harpreet Singh, is already lodged in Bathinda jail. According to reports, police at Mahitpur police station alleged that on March 20, 2023, some individuals, using the names of Harjeet Singh, Harpreet Singh, and Amritpal Singh, entered someone’s home at gunpoint and intimidated them into living there. Police registered a case in connection with this incident under sections 449, 342, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
