The Transport Department has launched a special campaign to resolve long-pending driving license cases in Punjab. Work has now begun in RTA offices across the state to clear the backlog of driving licenses.
The department aims to upload all old license data to the online portal within the next 15 days. Transport department officials stated that license records for individuals who have not been updated on the digital portal for many years are now being processed expeditiously. All these old records will be uploaded to the Sarathi portal so that citizens do not face any problems with verification or renewal in the future.
According to departmental instructions, the RTA and SDM offices in each district have been ordered to scan old files and upload them to the portal within 15 days. Additional staff have been deployed for this process in major districts like Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar, and Bathinda. The department says this step is aimed at making the digital transport system completely transparent and streamlined. Existing license holders will now be able to update or renew their licenses online without having to visit the RTO office. It has also been decided that expired licenses will be automatically updated online upon renewal.
This initiative is expected to provide relief to thousands of people who were facing difficulties in obtaining new licenses or renewals due to their old records. Department officials said that once the complete data is available online in the next two weeks, all driving license-related services will be 100% digital.
