During the recent by-election, Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, obstructed police action and misbehaved with a police officer. The Tarn Taran City Police Station had registered a case against Kanchanpreet Kaur and 25 others, including IT Wing in-charge Nachattar Singh Gill.
However, due to the Tarn Taran Police’s failure to provide a correct and satisfactory response to the court in this entire matter, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has suspended two DSPs of the district. These include DSP Detective Harinder Singh, DSP PBI, and the Superintendent of Kapurthala Jail.
According to sources, the altercation between Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, and IT Wing in-charge Nachattar Singh Gill and a police officer during the by-election in the Tarn Taran Assembly constituency has already been in the news. A case related to this incident was registered at City Police Station, after which the police arrested Nachattar Singh Gill and two of his associates and remanded them in judicial custody.
The Akali Dal (SAD) accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of high-handedness in connection with this arrest and submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission regarding the police’s actions. The High Court subsequently ordered Nachattar Singh Gill and two of his associates to be held in judicial custody. However, the Akali Dal (SAD) filed a bail petition in the High Court, which was heard yesterday and the High Court granted Nachattar Singh Gill bail. Upon granting bail, the Punjab DGP suspended Tarn Taran DSP (Detective) Harinder Singh and DSP (PBI) Gulzar Singh for failing to submit satisfactory replies to the High Court. Furthermore, the Superintendent of Kapurthala Jail has also been suspended in connection with the High Court’s order regarding Nachattar Singh Gill’s release.
