PU declared a holiday tomorrow! Administration shaken by dual blockade by farmers and students

Date:

Chandigarh is set to be the center of two significant large-scale protests tomorrow. While farmer organizations have announced a protest march in Sector 43 over issues related to Punjab University (PU), student protests are also intensifying, demanding the resumption of Senate elections at PU. Both protests have raised concerns among the administration, leading to tightened security arrangements in the city.

According to reports, farmer organizations say that the central government and the administration’s policies regarding Punjab University are not in Punjab’s interest. Farmers fear that PU’s autonomy and Punjab’s rights are being infringed. Regarding this, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced a major protest in Chandigarh tomorrow. Farmer organizations have appealed to farmers across the state to gather in large numbers in Sector 43 to make their voices heard strongly by the government.

PU Holiday declared tomorrow

In view of potential tensions and security concerns, the Panjab University administration has declared a holiday at PU for tomorrow. The university has advised students and staff not to come to campus unnecessarily and to maintain distance from protest areas.

It should be noted that along with farmers, PU student organizations will also take to the streets tomorrow to raise their issues. The students’ main demand is that the Punjab University Senate elections be resumed soon and conducted through a transparent process. Students allege that by delaying the elections, the administration is violating democratic rights. Tomorrow, student protests will continue outside and around PU, which could further escalate the situation.
