Fog: Orange alert for Chandigarh Tricity today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Saturday, warning of dense to very dense fog at several places in and around Chandigarh Tricity, while a yellow alert has been sounded for Sunday and again from Tuesday to Thursday, indicating dense fog at isolated locations.

The Tricity remained engulfed in dense to very dense fog for the third consecutive day on Friday, severely reducing visibility. The weatherman said the persistence of foggy conditions was accompanied by a noticeable dip in both day and night temperatures across the Tricity, intensifying winter chill and disrupting normal life.

At the Chandigarh weather observatory, the maximum temperature settled at 19°C, about 2 degrees below normal, while the minimum stood at 7.9°C, close to the seasonal average.

11 flights cancelled at Mohali airport due to fog

Eleven flights were cancelled due to fog and poor visibility at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport today.

Four arrivals from Pune, Delhi and Hisar and seven departures to Mumbai, Hisar, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru had to be cancelled.

The flights to Chennai, Ahmedabad and Goa departed late by more than an hour. A flight to Mumbai was late two hours. The international flight to Dubai was behind the schedule by almost an hour.

Fog and poor visibility disrupted flight operations during early morning and evening hours.
