Dolphins swimming near Mumbai’s Worli Sea Face captivates residents; video goes viral

Date:

Mumbai is known for throwing up surprises, but this one truly stopped people in their tracks. Residents at Worli Sea Face were treated to a rare and joyful sight when a pod of dolphins was seen swimming unusually close to the shoreline.

The unexpected moment was filmed and shared on Instagram by Savin Chauhan, who captioned the clip, “Between concrete and chaos… A Dolphin moment.”

In the video, a small crowd can be seen gathered along the concrete promenade, leaning over the edge and pointing excitedly at the water below. Their curiosity soon turns into amazement as the camera pans away from them to reveal the sea.

Not long after, ripples appear near the surface, followed by dolphins gliding through the clear blue water. Their fins cut through the waves as they swim in sync, occasionally leaping up. Birds circle overhead, adding to the serenity of the scene. A text overlay on the video reads, “Mumbaikars witness surprise dolphins visit.”

Once posted online, drawing enthusiastic reactions from viewers. Many expressed happiness at spotting dolphins so close to Mumbai’s bustling coastline, while some added a touch of humour, joking that the dolphins had come looking for vada pav.

One user commented, “Returned after 5 years, Last seen during the time of Corona.” Another provided context, writing, “These are Indian Ocean humpback dolphins. It’s a near-shore dolphin species found all along the west coast of India. In Mumbai, they are pretty common around Colaba, Worli, Madh, and especially around Creek mouths! This is an amazing documentation!”

A third viewer reflected on environmental responsibility, saying, “If we stop littering and clean our ocean we will be able to see all kinds of beautiful sea creatures crystal clear.”
