Chandigarh police give up on probe in 8-year-old robbery case
File FIR cancellation report in court
The UT police have filed a cancellation report in an eight-year-old robbery case.
The case was registered on January 10, 2018, on a complaint of Khushboo Jain, daughter of a businessman. She had stated that jewellery worth at least Rs 1.5 crore was looted from their house in a posh Sector-33 locality.
She stated that the incident took place around 7.30 pm when four masked men armed with pistols walked into their house through the front gate. They held her and two servants at gunpoint and asked her to give the locker key while hitting her on the face. Scared, she told them the place where the keys were kept. The robbers then opened the locker and fled with all cash and jewellery lying in it.
Later, she rang up her father Ajit Jain, who informed the police.
Ajit Jain owns cold stores in Lalru and is also into gold trade. His family also runs a jewellery boutique, sells gold ornaments online and also designs wedding jewellery.
During investigation, the police came to know that the four accused had come in a black Hyundai Santro car, wore monkey caps and mostly communicated through gestures during their 20-minute stay in the house.
Initially, the police probe suggested that the robbers knew where the jewellery was kept in the house.
The police checked CCTV footage but failed to know the registration number of the car in which the miscreants had arrived. They interrogated employees and neighbours but failed to make any headway. Ten days after the incident, driver of the businessman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Zirakpur.
