Kanishka, a student of Class XII, reaches Government Model Senior Secondary School, Manimajra, to appear for her Class XII physics exam on Friday.

In a moving display of courage and determination, a Class XII student reached her examination centre in an ambulance on Friday to appear for her physics board examination, refusing to let serious illness stand in the way of her academic aspirations.

Kanishka, who has been battling muscular dystrophy since birth, arrived at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 13, accompanied by a team of doctors and supported by an oxygen cylinder. Despite a sharp decline in her health over the past 20 days, she was resolute about sitting for the examination she had prepared for over the year.

Her arrival at the centre drew quiet admiration from staff and students alike. School authorities, in coordination with the CBSE, made special arrangements to ensure she could write her paper without difficulty. A room on the ground floor was arranged to allow easy access for medical personnel and equipment.

The Principal of GMSSS, Manimajra, said the process was handled smoothly with guidance from the city coordinator. “We ensured she was comfortable and had all necessary support. As per CBSE norms for students with special medical needs, she was granted 20 minutes extra per hour, which gave her an additional hour to complete the exam,” the principal said.

Teachers described Kanishka as calm and focussed during the examination. Her quiet determination left a deep impression on those present there.

“The child was quite confident and brave. She has set an example for others. Even in normal circumstances, children sometimes lose hope, but Kanishka has shown that despite her illness, she faced challenges head-on,” the principal added.

Her father Prem Singh Bisht said the family was overwhelmed by the support extended by the school and authorities. “Kanishka successfully finished her paper and was determined to appear for the remaining four exams,” he shared.

For many at the centre, the sight of a student arriving in an ambulance and stepping into the examination hall with unwavering resolve was a powerful reminder that determination can triumph over adversity.
