Panic ensued at the District Court complex on Saturday when a pistol was recovered from a woman’s purse during a routine security check. The woman was allegedly attempting to enter the court premises while carrying the firearm. Upon receiving information about the incident, an atmosphere of chaos and commotion gripped the entire court complex.
Acting on the information, police from the Sector-36 station rushed to the scene, while DSP Dheeraj Kumar also inspected the site of the incident. The police immediately seized the pistol and took both the woman and the young man accompanying her into custody. Subsequently, a case was registered against both individuals, and an investigation has been initiated.
According to reports, Lovepreet—a resident of Kharar—had arrived at the District Court in Sector-43 along with her friend, Balkaran (a resident of Mohali), in connection with a legal case. The duo parked their vehicle outside and entered the court complex on foot. During the security screening process, when the woman placed her purse on the scanning machine, a red alert alarm sounded.
Upon hearing the alarm, the police personnel stationed at the checkpoint immediately went on high alert. A search of the purse revealed the pistol concealed inside. The discovery of the weapon caused a stir among the security personnel present at the scene. The police promptly confiscated both the purse and the weapon, taking the pair into custody. During police interrogation, the young man, Balkaran, claimed that the pistol belonged to him and that he possessed a valid license for it. He explained that the pistol was supposed to be left in the vehicle but had inadvertently remained inside the woman’s purse. The woman, for her part, stated that she had absolutely no knowledge that there was a pistol inside her purse.
However, the police remain skeptical regarding the statements provided by both individuals and are currently investigating how the licensed weapon ended up in the woman’s purse instead of being left in the vehicle. For the time being, the police have registered an FIR and have commenced a thorough investigation into the matter.
