The events that unfolded last night in the city’s EWS colony have completely shattered the police’s claims regarding security arrangements. Around 11 PM on Friday night, miscreants spread terror by openly firing shots, leaving one young man critically injured. What is shocking is that, following the incident, the accused fled the scene with brazen impunity. Although the police from Division No. 7 reached the spot after receiving the alert, there is widespread outrage among local residents. People allege that the fear of the police has vanished, and criminals are now fearlessly firing shots in broad daylight. While the police currently state that they are investigating the matter, the accused remain beyond the reach of the law.
According to the sequence of events, a young man named Sudama was standing outside his home. Meanwhile, a group of youths from Lane No. 2 had ordered food via Zomato. The delivery boy lost his way and ended up near Sudama, whereupon he began calling the youths who had placed the order. When one of the youths arrived to collect the food, he began to verbally lash out at the delivery boy without any provocation. When Sudama, who was standing nearby, witnessed this scene, the accused youth turned his aggression toward him as well, picking an argument and demanding, “Why are you looking at me?”
Seeing the situation escalate, Sudama called out to his brother, Mukesh, for help. Over this trivial matter, the accused summoned his accomplices, and together they launched an attack on the two brothers. The situation reached a critical point when another accomplice of the accused arrived in a ‘black Thar’ SUV—in a scene reminiscent of a movie—and immediately began firing indiscriminately. A bullet struck Sudama directly in the leg, and he collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely. As the sound of gunfire drew a crowd of onlookers, the accused fled the scene while openly issuing threats.
