A case involving the death of a young man while in police custody has come to light in Amritsar, creating a tense atmosphere in the area. Levelling serious allegations against the police, the deceased’s family members have claimed that their son was severely tortured during his remand period and that he lost his life due to physical assault.
The deceased’s mother stated that her son had been in police remand for the past five days. He had been implicated in a car theft case. The mother claims that his condition deteriorated drastically during the remand. Late at night, the police brought him to the Civil Hospital, where he was writhing in pain and shivering from the cold, and his body had gone rigid. According to the mother, she folded her hands and pleaded with the police officials to admit her son to a private hospital, but her pleas went unheard. The family alleges that the young man’s life could have been saved had he received proper medical treatment in a timely manner.
The deceased’s wife, weeping bitterly, shared that they have a two-year-old child and that this tragedy has devastated their entire family. She alleged that the police mistreated her husband and failed to ensure he received proper medical care even at the hospital. Meanwhile, Robin Hans, a police official from the Ranjit Avenue Police Station, stated that the young man was in remand in connection with a theft case. He was admitted to the hospital after his health deteriorated, and he passed away while undergoing treatment. He added that a thorough investigation into the matter would be conducted and that the truth would be brought to light through a judicial inquiry. For now, this incident has raised several questions, and the family is demanding justice.
