E-rickshaws, currently running unchecked across the metropolis, have begun to pose a deadly threat to the public. One such tragic incident recently unfolded in the Focal Point area, where a speeding e-rickshaw struck and ran over a cyclist. The victim, who sustained critical injuries in the accident, succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment. Upon receiving information regarding the incident, the police at the Focal Point Police Station registered a case against the unidentified driver.
The police are currently examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the accident site in an effort to trace the e-rickshaw’s registration number. The complainant, Rajinder Yadav, stated that his uncle, Mishri Lal (aged approximately 56), worked at a factory named ‘Systac International,’ located in Focal Point Phase-5. On April 1st, as was his daily routine, he was riding his bicycle to work. As he approached the vicinity of ‘Preet Dharam Kanda’ near the Aarti Steel Chowk, an e-rickshaw driver approaching from behind—operating his vehicle with extreme negligence and at high speed—crashed violently into his bicycle.
The impact of the collision was so severe that Mishri Lal was thrown onto the road and sustained critical injuries. Following the incident, the accused driver managed to flee the scene along with his e-rickshaw. The injured Mishri Lal was immediately admitted to the ESI Hospital in Ludhiana for medical treatment. However, his condition subsequently deteriorated, and unable to withstand the severity of his injuries, he passed away.
