In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, a team from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested a youth from the Jandiala Guru area of Amritsar, seizing 1 kg and 264 grams of heroin from his possession.
The arrested accused has been identified as Karandeep Singh alias ‘Karan’, a resident of Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Mehta Road, Amritsar. According to the police, the accused is educated only up to the 5th grade; he previously worked as a carpenter but later entered the drug trafficking trade after succumbing to drug addiction. This operation was conducted under the directives of ADGP Nilabh Kishore and under the supervision of AIG Jagjit Singh Saroa and DSP Bikramjit Singh. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by ASI Kuldeep Singh cordoned off the Green Avenue Colony in Jandiala Guru and apprehended the accused.
The police have recovered 1.264 kg of heroin from the accused’s possession. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act at the Mohali Police Station. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused has a prior involvement in several criminal cases. In addition to drug trafficking, cases regarding the illegal possession of weapons and assault have also been registered against him. The police are now actively searching for other individuals linked to this network.
