The weather in Punjab has taken a dangerous turn since yesterday. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning continues unabated across several districts of the state. The next three hours are considered extremely critical for the residents of Punjab. The Meteorological Department has issued a major warning for several districts. During this period, strong winds accompanied by storms and rain are likely in areas including Sunam, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Kharar, and Samrala.
Rain Alert Issued for 22 Districts
According to the Meteorological Department, a rain alert has been issued for 22 districts across the entire state today. Meanwhile, storms and hailstorms are anticipated in five specific districts: Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali. Furthermore, 13 other districts—Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Moga, Bathinda, and Barnala—are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
Possibility of Drop in Temperature
According to Surinder Pal, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, hailstorms may occur in some locations today, and strong winds are expected. Following this, the weather is likely to clear up. Over the next 48 hours, daytime temperatures could drop by 4 to 6 degrees; subsequently, however, temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 5 to 7 degrees.
