Despite strict enforcement by the authorities, the rampant practice of illegal construction shows no signs of abating within the restricted zone of the 17 Field Ammunition Depot (AD), Baddowal. Acting on a complaint filed by military officials, the Sarabha Nagar Police Station has registered two separate cases against unidentified individuals and has initiated legal proceedings.
**Illegal Construction of Houses by Unidentified Individuals Continues**
According to reports, an official letter (Application No. 787200, System No. 786800, dated 08-04-2026) has been issued by the Administrative Officer (Lieutenant Colonel/Major) of the 17 Field Ammunition Depot, Baddowal. Military officials clarified that, for security reasons, there is a complete ban on any form of construction within a specific radius surrounding the depot. The report submitted by the military officials stated that unidentified individuals are illegally constructing houses within the “Notified Area” situated near the village of Iayali Kalan (Ludhiana).
**Construction Activities Continue Unabated in the Restricted Zone**
Despite repeated notifications and warnings issued by the military administration, construction activities continue unabated within this restricted zone—a situation that poses a grave threat from a security perspective. It is pertinent to note that the area surrounding an Army ammunition depot is considered highly sensitive. As per regulations, the construction of any permanent or temporary structure within a prescribed distance from the outer boundary wall of the depot is strictly illegal. Adopting a firm stance on the matter, military officials have now formally apprised the local administration and the police to ensure that these illegal constructions are halted immediately and that appropriate action is taken against the perpetrators.
