Baisakhi Festivities Turn into Mourning! Uncle and Nephew Drown While Bathing in the Beas River

Date:

On the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, an uncle and his nephew, who had gone to bathe in the Beas River, drowned—an incident that has cast a pall of deep sorrow over Butala village and the surrounding areas.

Two Youths Drown While Bathing in the Beas River
Dalwinderbir Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Dhilwan Police Station, stated that information was received around 12:00 PM that two youths had drowned while bathing in the Beas River between Mand Butala and Chakkoki. Upon receiving the report, a police team immediately rushed to the scene, and the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and diving teams were alerted. Following the tireless efforts of the rescue teams, the bodies of both youths were recovered from the river after approximately three and a half hours.

Special Appeal Issued to the Youth
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Ramandeep Singh (son of Buta Singh) and 30-year-old Gurdev Singh (son of Tarsem Singh), both residents of Butala village. According to the police, the two were uncle and nephew. After completing the necessary legal formalities, the police handed over the bodies of the deceased to their family members. The Station House Officer has appealed to the public—particularly the youth—to refrain from bathing in rivers or other deep-water bodies during festivals to prevent such tragic incidents. This accident has sent a wave of grief through Butala village and the entire region, and condolences are being extended to the families of the victims.
