Major news has emerged for those traveling by government buses in Punjab. The Punjab Roadways, Panbus/PRTC Contract Workers’ Union has announced a three-day strike from May 25 to 27, which will result in a complete disruption of bus services during this period.
**Demand to Regularize Contractual Employees**
According to reports, during a state-level meeting of the union, leaders accused the government of privatizing the Transport Department. They allege that private buses are being promoted under the ‘Kilometer Scheme,’ and that contractual employees are facing injustice. The union has demanded that contractual employees be regularized, the Kilometer Scheme be scrapped, and all cases registered against workers during previous protests be withdrawn.
**Complete Strike from May 25 to 27**
As part of the protest strategy, gate rallies are scheduled for May 1, a sit-in demonstration outside the Transport Minister’s residence on May 10, and a token strike on May 18. If their demands remain unmet even after these actions, a complete strike will be observed from May 25 to 27. Consequently, passengers may face severe inconvenience due to this strike.
