High speed and gravel scattered across the road have once again proven fatal in the city. A horrific road accident occurred around 9 PM on Wednesday near Chand Cinema on the Ludhiana-Hoshiarpur Road, in which a Mahindra pickup truck, laden with goods, went out of control and overturned on the road. The accident was so gruesome that the pickup truck flipped over approximately two to three times on the road, resulting in the driver’s right arm being completely severed from his body.
According to reports, the injured driver has been identified as Ramesh Chauhan, a native of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, who currently resides near Satta Mandi in the Sabun Bazaar area of Ludhiana. It is reported that on Wednesday night, Ramesh was traveling towards Ludhiana with two companions after loading goods in Hoshiarpur. As their vehicle reached the area in front of Chand Cinema, near the elevated road, the pickup driver lost control due to the combination of high speed and gravel scattered across the road. In a matter of moments, the vehicle began to flip over and sustained extensive damage.
Following the accident, the scene was filled with screams and commotion, and a large crowd quickly gathered at the spot. After a strenuous effort, passersby managed to pull the blood-soaked Ramesh and his companions out of the vehicle. In the accident, Ramesh’s arm had been severed, and he sustained severe injuries to his head and body, while his two companions suffered only minor injuries. Upon receiving the information, police personnel from Division No. 4 and an ambulance arrived at the scene. Given his critical condition, Ramesh was immediately rushed to a hospital, from where he was subsequently referred to Sobti Hospital. Currently, his condition remains critical. The police have taken custody of the damaged vehicle and have initiated an investigation into the incident. Local residents have stated that the gravel scattered across the road is frequently inviting accidents.
