Police Launch Search Operation in Chandigarh to Curb Snatching; Door-to-Door Searches in Sector 38, Several Suspects Questioned, Abandoned Bikes Seized

Date:

In view of the continuously rising incidents of snatching and the prevailing security situation in the city, the Sector-39 Police Station launched a major search operation on Thursday in the Sansi Colony and Madrasi Colony areas of Sector-38. During this operation, the police questioned several suspects and seized seven abandoned motorcycles.

This CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) was conducted under the supervision of SDPO (South-West) Dheeraj Kumar, acting on the directives of senior officials. The operation was led by Inspector Rajiv Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector-39.

According to the police, a special inspection was conducted on 22 households with known links to criminal activity during the operation. Residents of some of these households were found to be currently in judicial custody. Additionally, the credentials of individuals who had recently been released from jail or were out on bail were verified. A total of 74 police officers and personnel from the South-West sub-division participated in the operation. Police teams were provided with logistical support in the form of ‘Talliban’ vehicles, motorcycles, and PCR vans. Separate teams were formed to scrutinize the records of individuals released from jail or currently out on bail.

The police verified a total of 29 individuals released from jail or on bail, as well as six ‘Bad Characters’ (BCs)—individuals officially designated as habitual offenders—residing in Sector-38. Simultaneously, seven abandoned motorcycles were taken into custody.

Furthermore, action was initiated against 10 suspicious individuals under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita). Police officials stated that such operations would continue consistently in the future to curb snatching and other criminal activities within the city.
