A horrific road accident that occurred on the Patiala-Samana route on Sunday morning has sent shockwaves through the entire region. Near Bhanri village, two youths riding a tractor died on the spot after being struck by a speeding tipper truck. Following the accident, widespread outrage swept through the area, prompting angry relatives, farmers, and villagers to block the road and stage a protest.
Villagers alleged that the tipper was traveling at such high speed that it dragged the tractor for nearly half a kilometer. According to reports, the incident occurred around 5:30 AM on Sunday, when three youths from the village were traveling toward the market (Mandi) in a tractor-trolley. As they passed near Bhanri village, a speeding tipper truck rammed into the tractor from behind. The collision was so violent that the tractor was severely damaged; two of the youths on board died instantly at the scene, while a third youth is reported to be injured.
**Villagers Arrive Upon Learning of the Incident**
Upon receiving news of the accident, locals from the surrounding areas rushed to the scene. Within moments, a large crowd of villagers had gathered. The relatives of the deceased also arrived at the accident site, and the atmosphere became heavy with grief. Villagers alleged that speeding heavy vehicles in the area are constantly causing accidents, yet the administration has failed to take any strict action to curb the menace. The irate crowd blocked the road and raised slogans against the administration and the police. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the accused driver and adequate compensation for the victim’s families. Due to the road blockade, long queues of vehicles formed on both sides, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
**Police Initiate Action**
Upon receiving the information, police officials arrived at the scene and attempted to pacify the crowd. The police have taken custody of the bodies and have initiated further proceedings. Officials assured the gathering that an impartial investigation into the matter would be conducted and strict action would be taken against the guilty driver.
A wave of mourning has swept across the region in the wake of this tragic accident. Villagers say that if speeding vehicles had been curbed in time, this tragic accident could perhaps have been averted.
