People Reeling from Scorching Heat as Temperatures Soar Past 45°C; Signs of Imminent Relief Emerge

The relentless heatwave in Punjab continues to intensify. Amidst the ‘Nautapa’ (the nine hottest days of the year), the maximum temperature in Punjab has once again breached the 45-degree mark. According to the Meteorological Department, there appears to be no respite from the heat today either. However, indications suggest that a change in weather conditions is likely in the near future.

According to the Meteorological Department, Bathinda remained the hottest region, recording a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius. Due to the severe heat and scorching winds, it became difficult for people to venture out of their homes throughout the day.

According to a report by the Chandigarh Weather Centre, temperatures recorded across Punjab were approximately 2.4 degrees higher than normal. Specific recordings included 43.4 degrees in Patiala, 42.5 degrees in Faridkot, 42.5 degrees in Ludhiana, and 42.4 degrees in Fazilka. The mercury also remained above the 41-degree mark in Amritsar and Chandigarh.

**Western Disturbance Becoming Active**

A new Western Disturbance is becoming active. In light of this, the Meteorological Department has predicted the likelihood of relief for the state. According to the department, a shift in weather patterns is expected across the state on Thursday, May 28. While a heatwave alert remains in effect for some regions on this day, there is also a possibility of rainfall in others. However, on May 29, the Western Disturbance is expected to bring about a change in weather conditions across the entire state.

**Heat to Intensify Across the State Today**

**May 27:** The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ regarding a severe heatwave for the districts of Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda, Moga, Barnala, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Mansa, and Patiala. Meanwhile, a ‘Yellow Alert’ will remain in effect for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, and Fatehgarh Sahib.

**May 28:** The weather is expected to begin taking a turn. An ‘Orange Alert’ for severe heat conditions will remain in effect for Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda, Barnala, and Mansa. Meanwhile, warnings regarding strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms have been issued for several other districts across Punjab. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in certain areas.

May 29: An ‘Orange Alert’ regarding thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms will be in effect for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, and Patiala. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, and Mansa.

May 30: The likelihood of strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms will persist across most parts of Punjab. An ‘Orange Alert’ will remain in effect for Pathankot, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala, while a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for several other districts.

Amidst the prevailing heatwave, the Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid venturing outdoors during the afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat.
