A tragic industrial accident that occurred early Monday morning in Ludhiana, Punjab, has shaken the entire region. Panic ensued among the workers at a factory specializing in the manufacture of wrenches and spanners following a sudden leak of toxic gas. The incident resulted in the death of a father and son due to asphyxiation, while several other workers were hospitalized after their health deteriorated.
Following the incident, an atmosphere of panic gripped the factory premises and the surrounding area. The deceased have been identified as Man Singh and his son, Amit. Both men were employed at the factory and had arrived for their duties on Monday morning, just as they did every day. According to eyewitnesses, work was proceeding normally during the morning hours.
Suddenly, a leak of toxic gas began emanating from either a pipeline or a gas cylinder. Within moments, the gas spread throughout the entire premises, causing the employees present to experience difficulty breathing, burning sensations in their eyes, and a sense of suffocation.
**Workers Collapse on the Spot**
Some workers attempted to escape, but the effects of the gas were so potent that several employees collapsed and fell unconscious right there on the spot. Upon receiving information about the incident, the factory management, local administration, and relief teams rushed to the scene. Rescue workers, utilizing safety equipment, began the process of evacuating the employees trapped inside the factory.
Man Singh and his son, Amit—who were critically affected—were immediately rushed to a hospital; however, doctors declared both of them dead upon examination. News of the tragedy plunged the families into deep anguish and chaos. At the hospital, the relatives were inconsolable and overwhelmed with grief. Treatment for the other affected workers is currently underway at various hospitals. According to doctors, the condition of some employees remains under close observation.
**Bodies Sent for Post-mortem**
The bodies of both deceased individuals have been deposited at the Cancer Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, teams from the concerned departments are actively engaged in determining the actual causes of the gas leak. Officials state that it will become clear only after a preliminary investigation whether the accident was caused by a technical glitch, negligence regarding safety standards, or some other factor.
Following the accident, an atmosphere of grief and anxiety prevails in the factory area. Local residents have demanded a review of safety protocols within industrial units to prevent similar incidents in the future. The administration has also given assurances that necessary action will be taken once the investigation report is received.
