A series of strategic deliberations between the party high command and Punjab Congress’s top leadership is currently underway in Delhi. By summoning the state leadership to the capital for the fourth time in just 12 days, the high command has signaled that serious strategic work regarding the 2027 elections has begun.
On Wednesday afternoon, senior Punjab leaders were asked to reach the national capital, prompting several of them to depart for Delhi. Key leaders expected to attend the crucial meeting scheduled for Thursday include State Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Pargat Singh, Rana Gurjit Singh, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, MP Dr. Amar Singh, Vijay Inder Singla, and Aruna Chaudhary.
**Review of political situation**
According to party sources, the meeting’s main agenda involves reviewing the current political landscape in Punjab, determining the path to further strengthen the organizational structure, and finalizing preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. It is reported that the Congress leadership may also share details regarding significant organizational decisions concerning the state with the leaders.
Bhupesh Baghel, the party’s in-charge for Punjab affairs, stated that the meeting would include a detailed assessment of the political situation across all 117 assembly constituencies in the state. Additionally, discussions will be held on initiating the preliminary stages of candidate selection, ensuring that potential contenders have ample time to work in their respective constituencies.
**Congress aims for early election readiness**
The Congress leadership believes that if the assembly elections are announced ahead of schedule for any reason, having candidates ready in advance will provide them with sufficient time for public outreach and campaigning. The party’s strategy is to activate potential candidates well in time, thereby expanding the organization and strengthening its grassroots presence. The series of ongoing meetings is being viewed in political circles as a sign that the Congress high command is working rapidly on a comprehensive and long-term electoral strategy to ensure the party’s comeback in Punjab.
