Snatchers and robbers are roaming the city with brazen audacity; in one such incident, a cunning robber snatched a pedestrian’s expensive mobile phone in broad daylight after holding a sharp, knife-like object against his stomach. However, the robber’s luck ran out this time. Thanks to the alertness of the public—who gathered after the victim raised an alarm—and the prompt action of the police, the accused was apprehended. The Division No. 2 police not only arrested the accused but also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime and the stolen mobile phone. The arrested individual has been identified as Satnam. The police have registered a case against him and initiated further proceedings.
In his statement to the police, the victim, Intiyaz, recounted that he had stepped out of his home for some work on June 13. As he reached near JMD Mall, a young man approached from the direction of the railway station with his face covered by a cloth to conceal his identity. Before the victim could comprehend the situation, the cunning robber held a sharp weapon—resembling a knife—against his stomach, threatened to kill him, forcibly snatched a Samsung M-50-1 mobile phone from his pocket, and attempted to flee.
Following this sudden attack, the victim began shouting for help. Hearing his cries, people nearby immediately gathered at the scene. Bystanders noted down the registration number of the fleeing robber’s motorcycle, the last digits of which were 8987. Subsequently, during the investigation, the police apprehended the accused, Satnam. The police are now subjecting the accused to rigorous interrogation to determine how many other crimes he may have committed in the area.
