The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a major gang involved in smuggling illegal weapons from across the border. During the operation, the police arrested eight individuals and recovered 11 modern pistols and 8 live cartridges from their possession.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the arrested individuals were allegedly in contact with persons based abroad who are involved in the illegal arms supply trade. According to the investigation, the recovered weapons were intended for distribution among criminal elements. The primary objective behind procuring these weapons was to facilitate extortion, violent crimes, and other unlawful activities. Cases registered at three police stations; investigation underway.
FIRs regarding this matter have been registered at the Airport, Sadar, and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar. According to the police department, a thorough investigation is underway to identify other associates linked to this network, effect further recoveries, and make additional arrests.
