Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has stated that changing the national mindset is the first step toward transforming the country. Unless there is a positive shift in the thinking of the youth, the nation’s landscape will not change. He emphasized that today’s youth will shape India’s future and bear the primary responsibility of steering the country in a new direction.
The Governor attended an award ceremony organized by the ‘Sankalp Sanstha’ at the Sohan Lal Pahwa Auditorium on Monday. During the event, students who qualified for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination were honored. Congratulating the successful candidates, the Governor urged them to serve the nation with dedication.
**Reaching a position is not the ultimate goal**
In his address, the Governor noted that while formulating plans and policies is important, it is the youth who must implement them on the ground. Merely attaining a specific post or office should not be the ultimate definition of success. The country needs officers and responsible citizens who discharge their duties with honesty, impartiality, and a spirit of service. He remarked that students possess immense talent and face the significant challenge of making the nation better. A strong individual character leads to a strong society and nation; therefore, fostering a positive environment within families and society is essential.
**Economic growth is not the only measure of success**
The Governor stated that the UPSC examination is not merely a means to secure a job but a significant opportunity to bring about positive change in the country. If capable, sensitive, and honest individuals join the administrative services, India will emerge as an exemplary nation on the global stage.
He emphasized that moving the country forward requires strengthening character, humanity, and moral values alongside economic development. Addressing the youth, he called upon them to embrace a spirit of cooperation and collective growth.
Citing an example, he said that if a person does not see a particular talent in their own child but notices potential in a neighbor’s child, they should support that child’s progress. Society becomes strong only when people become partners in each other’s success. Struggle is a Part of Life
Urging students to define a clear mission for their lives, the Governor remarked that struggle is an inevitable part of everyone’s journey. He noted that those who courageously face challenges and hardships play a significant role in nation-building and the development of society.
He called upon the youth to pledge to work with honesty, impartiality, and dedication. At the conclusion of the event, students who had successfully cleared the UPSC examination were felicitated, and wishes were extended for their bright futures.
