A major robbery took place late at night at a Pungrain government warehouse located in Mahal Bukhari village, Ajnala (Amritsar). Miscreants held the warehouse watchmen hostage and fled with a truck loaded with approximately 400 sacks of wheat. It is reported that this wheat was intended for distribution to the needy under the ‘Atta-Dal’ scheme. According to available information, around 15 unidentified miscreants entered the warehouse late at night. Before executing the heist, they siphoned diesel from other trucks parked at the site and filled the truck designated for the wheat with that same fuel. They then loaded about 400 sacks of wheat onto the truck and fled the scene.
Watchmen held hostage and threatened with death
A watchman stationed at the warehouse recounted that the power suddenly went out late at night. When he stepped outside to check the electricity supply, miscreants lying in wait grabbed him. He was taken to a room where other accomplices were already present. The miscreants held all the watchmen hostage and threatened to kill them if they resisted. They then calmly loaded the wheat onto the truck and escaped.
