Rs 1,000–1,500 Credited to Women’s Accounts in Punjab; Long Queues at Muktsar Banks

Date:

Women in the district have started receiving benefits under the ‘Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ (Mothers-Daughters Respect Scheme). Under this scheme, amounts ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 have been deposited into the bank accounts of eligible women. Great enthusiasm was observed among the women upon receiving the funds.

Approximately two lakh women in the district fall under the ambit of this scheme. A large crowd of women was seen on Thursday after receiving notifications that the money had been credited to their accounts. Many arrived to withdraw cash, while others came to get their passbooks updated. However, registration for 30–35 percent of the district’s women remains pending due to incomplete documentation; consequently, ‘Seva Kendras’ (service centers) also witnessed heavy crowds on Thursday. Jatinder Singh, the in-charge of the Seva Kendra, stated that most women were visiting to apply for SC (Scheduled Caste) certificates. Files are being collected and certificates processed for all applicants. To prevent inconvenience, a token system has been implemented, and work is being carried out according to turn.

Beneficiaries Express Happiness
Upon receiving the scheme’s funds, the women expressed gratitude to the government and stated that they would use the money to meet family needs. Nirmala Devi and Rajvinder Kaur, residents of Goniana Road, said they would spend the money on their children’s education and essential supplies to ensure their studies face no interruptions.

Varsha Tayal also received the funds in her bank account. She mentioned that she would use the money to meet household needs and ensure the smooth running of her home. Funds were credited to the accounts of two women in her household.

Sonia Nagpal said she would buy notebooks, books, pens, and pencils for her children. Shobha Joshi, a resident of Jalalabad Road, stated that she would use the amount for daily household expenses. Overall, the ‘Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ is proving to be a source of financial support for the women of the district.
