Internal infighting within the Punjab Congress has once again surfaced openly. Factionalism intensified even before party in-charge Bhupesh Baghel arrived in Chandigarh. Congress MP from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has openly rallied in support of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Following a crucial meeting in Mohali, Randhawa and Channi shared photos and videos on social media featuring other leaders, captioned “Unity is Strength.” These images included several senior leaders such as Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh, new Working President Sangat Singh Gilzian, MLA Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu. However, the party’s state president, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, was notably absent from the photos.
Meanwhile, Congress MP from Patiala, Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi, offered counsel to both Channi and Warring without explicitly naming them. He stated that Congress leaders are expected to make sacrifices for the sake of democracy, the Constitution, and the interests of Punjab. His statement is being viewed in the context of demands for a leadership change within the party.
