Hermanbir Singh Gill, DIG (Border Range) of the Punjab Police, conducted a surprise inspection of the Rajasansi police station on Thursday. During the inspection, the Station House Officer (SHO) was found absent from his assigned duty post. The DIG then proceeded to the station premises, where the SHO was allegedly found in an intoxicated state in a room located behind the main office. Upon finding evidence of gross negligence in the preliminary inquiry, the DIG ordered the SHO’s immediate suspension and initiated a departmental probe.
A video of this incident is rapidly going viral on social media. In the video, DIG Hermanbir Singh Gill is seen sternly reprimanding the SHO. He can be heard saying in Punjabi, “You were supposed to be manning the checkpoint, yet here you are lying down—you fool.” Although the SHO attempted to offer an explanation, the DIG refused to listen and issued orders for his immediate suspension. According to police officials, no negligence regarding security duties in the border region will be tolerated; all officers and personnel have been instructed to perform their duties with utmost vigilance at their designated locations.
