Panic gripped the area following a barrage of gunfire late at night at the grain market in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala. Brazen assailants targeted a young man sitting at a commission agent’s shop, firing multiple rounds at him. The youth sustained critical injuries in the incident. The attack occurred just 100 meters from a police post, raising questions about the security arrangements.
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The injured youth has been identified as 23-year-old Sunny, son of Subhash, a resident of Mauju Khera in Sirsa district. According to eyewitnesses, the youth was sitting at the commission agent’s shop late at night when unidentified assailants arrived and opened rapid fire on him. Reports suggest that four to five rounds were fired, causing chaos in the market. Locals rushed the injured youth to the hospital.
Upon hearing the gunshots, people nearby scrambled to save their lives. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the incident. Locals rushed the critically injured youth to the Civil Hospital; after administering first aid, doctors referred him to a higher medical center for advanced treatment due to his critical condition. Dr. Arpan Kaur of the Civil Hospital stated that the youth was brought in a critical state. Following initial treatment, he was immediately referred elsewhere due to his worrying condition.
Police recover three shell casings
A police team inspected the crime scene immediately after being informed of the incident. Jasjit Singh, the in-charge of the police post, stated that three empty shell casings were recovered from the spot. An investigation is underway from all angles to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify those involved.
The police are also examining footage from surveillance cameras in the surrounding areas and questioning eyewitnesses in an effort to identify the attackers. Officials say that several teams have been deployed to arrest the accused, and they will be caught soon.
