The police administration tightened security arrangements in the district after the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) announced plans to lay siege to the residence of Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Saturday to press for their demands. Following reports of farmers arriving in Faridkot, special checkpoints were set up at various locations, including district borders, the city, and Sandhwan village.
Despite this, a large number of farmers from various districts of Punjab began arriving in Faridkot from Saturday morning onwards. The police detained several farmers and held them at the Police Lines. The administration made continuous efforts to prevent the farmers from proceeding towards the Speaker’s residence.
Road blockade near Nehru Bridge
Around 12:45 PM, farmers arriving from outlying districts blocked the road near Nehru Bridge on Kotkapura Road. Upon receiving the information, a police team led by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Narendra Singh arrived at the scene. The police attempted to clear the farmers from the road; during this process, an argument ensued between farmer leaders and police officials.
