A 37-year-old woman was stabbed to death on Tuesday morning in Dashmesh Nagar, Zirakpur. The deceased has been identified as Poonam.
Preliminary investigations point suspicion toward her first husband, who is reportedly absconding since the incident. The police are actively searching for him. A forensic team visited the crime scene and collected evidence.
Initial police inquiries revealed that Poonam had been living with her second husband for about two and a half years. Despite this, her first husband used to contact her by phone and visit her. The police are now gathering details regarding past disputes and the nature of their contact. Dispute in the morning, followed by a knife attack.
According to preliminary information, an argument broke out between Poonam and her first husband in the morning. It is suspected that she was stabbed as the dispute escalated; three to four stab wounds were found on her body. The accused fled the scene after the attack. Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team arrived and secured the crime scene. Given the gravity of the matter, a forensic team was also summoned. The team collected various pieces of evidence, which the police have taken into custody for examination.
Police searching for the first husband
The police are currently investigating the role of the first husband while simultaneously searching for him. They are trying to determine the cause of the dispute and the sequence of events leading up to the incident. Information is also being gathered from individuals connected to the case.
Poonam’s body has been taken into custody and sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police state that the facts surrounding the murder will become clearer once the post-mortem report is received and the investigation is concluded.

According to ASI Harvinder Singh Jatana, who is investigating the case, the police are examining all aspects related to the incident. The forensic team has collected evidence from the scene of the incident. A search for the suspect is underway, and further legal action will be taken based on the investigation.
