A serious case has come to light involving a woman who held Permanent Residency (PR) abroad; she married a man and helped him relocate to the foreign country, only for him to abandon her and misappropriate her jewelry and cash immediately upon arrival. Following a detailed investigation into the complaint filed by the victim’s father at the Police Commissioner’s office, the police have registered a case against the accused husband, Amritpal Singh, and his associates for fraud, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy.
The complainant, Iqbal Singh, stated that his daughter, Ramanpreet Kaur Grewal, married Amritpal Singh in December 2016 in accordance with traditional customs. At the time of the marriage, Ramanpreet Kaur held PR status in Poland. After the wedding, she facilitated the legal procedures to take her husband, Amritpal Singh, to Poland with her. It is alleged that Amritpal Singh’s attitude changed completely the moment he set foot on foreign soil. As part of a premeditated conspiracy, he abandoned Ramanpreet Kaur immediately upon arrival and began living separately at a different location in Poland. He never returned to his wife.
The victim’s father alleged that the accused had conspired and colluded to marry his daughter solely with the intention of going abroad. The accused did not return the substantial amount of gold jewelry given to them during the wedding, nor did they reimburse the large sums spent on the marriage and the expenses incurred to facilitate the move abroad. After ruining the young woman’s life and misappropriating her *stridhan* (assets belonging to the woman) and other funds worth lakhs of rupees, the accused committed a gross act of fraud against the family.
An extensive investigation conducted by the Economic Offences and Women’s Cell, acting on the instructions of senior police officials, found the complainant’s allegations to be substantiated. The police have registered a case against Amritpal Singh under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for fraud, conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust. Authorities state that necessary legal procedures are being initiated to take strict action against the accused.
