Relief for Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain: Court allows use of electric kettle and wooden plank in jail

Date:

The Karkardooma Court has granted permission to former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain—an accused in the larger conspiracy case linked to the North-East Delhi riots—to use an electric kettle and a wooden plank while in jail.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai issued this order while hearing an application filed on behalf of Tahir Hussain. The court clarified that both items must be used strictly in accordance with jail rules.

It was submitted to the court on Tahir Hussain’s behalf that he suffers from various ailments and requires hot water regularly, necessitating the use of an electric kettle in jail.

‘Used for five years; request for continued permission’
He also sought permission to use a wooden plank. The defense stated that he had previously been granted permission to use both items based on the recommendations of expert doctors and jail officials.

Tahir Hussain claimed that he has been using the electric kettle and wooden plank for the past five years and wishes to continue doing so.

The court examined the medical documents submitted by Tahir Hussain, which mentioned the permission to use the electric kettle and wooden plank. Considering the medical documents and the application, the court allowed the plea.

Use permitted subject to jail rules
The judge ordered that Tahir Hussain may use the electric kettle and wooden plank in compliance with jail rules. The Superintendent of the concerned jail has been directed to ensure adherence to the order. This matter pertains to the larger conspiracy case linked to the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, which was investigated by the Special Cell. Charges against Tahir Hussain include provisions under the UAPA, the Indian Penal Code, and other laws.

Tahir Hussain was produced in court from judicial custody during the hearing. Advocates representing the State, including Special Public Prosecutors Madhukar Pandey and Anirudh Mishra, were present, while Advocate Sunidhi Gupta appeared on behalf of Tahir Hussain.
